Education authorities are investigating a disgraced British teacher who has been working in New Zealand.

Fiona Forster was struck off by the General Teaching Council for England for what British media reported was the making of inappropriate comments of a sexual nature.

It followed an earlier suspension for selling cigarettes to students.

Peter Lind, the director of the New Zealand Teachers' Council, says the Council is investigating after receiving a complaint about the teacher.

He will not give details of the most recent complaint, but says the council carried out background checks before granting her registration.

Dr Lind says he understands Ms Forster is no longer a teacher at the Southern Cross Campus in Auckland.
