The pilot of a small plane was forced to crashland in a Motueka paddock on Monday morning after the engine cut out.

A Nelson police spokesperson says the male pilot, who was alone, walked away uninjured.

She says the plane was approaching Motueka airfield when the engine failed and the pilot landed in a paddock off Grey St.

She says the plane buried its nose in the ground, but remained upright.
