The head of a national recruitment firm says the job market is getting stronger which should soon feed through to higher wages.
Statistics New Zealand says ordinary time wages and salaries rose 0.5% in the three months to the end of June, up from an increase of 0.4% in the previous quarter.
Hays Recruitment managing director Jason Walker says firms are gearing up to take on more workers and that should further boost wage growth.
He says a Hays survey has found that the proportion of workers expecting wage increases is the highest in three years.
Wage growth in the private sector was steady to higher, while public-sector wage growth slowed.
