The two New Zealand soldiers killed in Afghanistan last week have been farewelled at Bagram airbase.

Their bodies are due back in New Zealand by the end of the week.

Lance-corporals Pralli Durrer and Rory Malone, who were both 26, were killed in action on Saturday.

Six other New Zealand soldiers were injured in the gun battle with the Taliban in Bamyan province.

Five of them have now been transferred from Afghanistan to a military hospital in Germany.

Four Afghan intelligence officers were killed and 10 soldiers injured in the fighting.
