The rain is easing in Bay of Plenty but police warn that slips, surface flooding and rock falls still make driving conditions dangerous.
State Highway 29 between Omanawa Road and Poripori Road is closed by a slip near Ruahihi Road and the threat of falling debris.
A detour is in place via Wairoa Road off State Highway 2 at Bethlehem through Crawford Road to Poripori Road.
Police say engineers are working to clear the highway and stabilise the hillside above.
