Security was tight at the Porirua District Court on Monday for the appearance of a man charged in connection with a fatal assault in Paraparaumu early on Saturday morning.
Izak Millanta, 17, was critically injured in the incident. He died in Wellington Hospital on Sunday after being found unconscious in a car park at the Coastlands Mall in Paraparaumu.
Police say he'd been chased through an alleyway by two men after an altercation outside a nearby bar. They say no weapons were used in the attack.
An unemployed 25-year-old Titahi Bay man appeared in court on Monday morning charged with assaulting Mr Millanta. He was granted interin name suppression and remanded in custody until 4 September.
Further charges are expected.
