October visitor numbers down

The number of visitors who came to New Zealand in October was down 3% on the previous year.

Statistics New Zealand says tourists from China are down by 3000 or 32%.

There was a drop of 1200 (12%) in visitors from the United States, while the number from South Korea also fell by 1200, (17%).

As for New Zealanders heading overseas: almost 175,900 people left for short holidays in October.

That was 7800 up on the same month last year. They agency says the later timing of the school holidays contributed to the rise.
