Some cash taken in Petone bank robbery

Police in Lower Hutt are investigating a robbery at the Westpac Bank in Petone on Tuesday morning.

Police say a man walked into the bank on the corner of Jackson St and Queen St at about 9.10am and demanded money from a female teller.

She gave him a small amount of cash and he left, running across Jackson St and in the direction of Petone railway station.

Nobody was harmed in the incident.

The offender is described as Maori, of medium build and wearing a black beanie, dark gloves and a grey and black patterned hooded sweatshirt.

He also had a distinctive orange plaster above his left eye.
