Nelson mini beats world record

A little car from Nelson, New Zealand, has proved a world-beater on the salt flats of Utah.

The 1964 Mini Cooper S averaged 228.6km per hour in the preliminary stages of qualifying at Bonneville Speed Week on Thursday.

That broke the record for a 1000cc vehicle.

Driver Nelson Hartley says he will have another chance to better the record in a time trial on Friday.
