Forest owners want quick resolution of emissions scheme

5:58 am on 25 November 2008

Forest owners are seeking an urgent meeting with government ministers to discuss the future of the Emissions Trading Scheme.

The National-led government has decided to review the entire scheme.

Forest Owners Association president Peter Berg said the review is a defacto repeal of the scheme for forest owners, who've been in the scheme since January.

Mr Berg said carbon credit contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars were on the table at election time and would have paid for new forests, but such sales are now in doubt.

He said the issue must be resolved quickly to remove further uncertainty for buyers.
