The family of a Brazilian exchange student who drowned in a school rock-climbing expedition is to hold a funeral service in New Plymouth.

Felipe Melo's body was recovered on Sunday after he and another 17-year-old student, Stephen Kahukaka-Gedye, went missing off Paritutu Rock with instructor Bryce Jourdain.

Spotswood College principal Mark Bowden says Felipe Melo's family is holding the service at the school on Saturday following a cremation. Details are still being finalised.

Meanwhile, police say the dive squad from Wellington will arrive on Wednesday to look for the remaining bodies near the breakwater and power station.
