Ethnic football festival begins

11:45 am on 29 November 2008

A national ethnic football festival kicked off in Wellington on Saturday.

The New Zealand Communities Cup is for teams who have won smaller regional events around the country.

Players have settled in New Zealand from countries such as Somalia, Germany, Italy, Fiji and Poland.

The event is sponsored by the police and Commissioner Howard Broad kicked-off with a punt at goal from the halfway line.

He did not quite hit the goal, but revealed some skill which he said he used to employ for the police team.

The final will be held at Rongotai College on Sunday.
