Sex offender moved to Whanganui

Updated at 4:54 am on 26 August 2012

Serial sex offender Stewart Murray Wilson has been moved to Whanganui ahead of his release this week.

Wilson, 65, had served 16 years in jail for multiple rapes and assaults against women and girls over a 25 year period.

The Corrections Department says Wilson is being held in Whanganui Prison until he is released onto a property on the grounds of the prison.

He is due to be released on Wednesday, but Corrections says he could be freed earlier and is not confirming the exact day due to security concerns.

Whanganui District Council has lodged papers seeking a judicial review of Wilson's placement; the case is due to be heard in court on Monday.
