Three people have been treated for smoke inhalation after a controlled fire on a rural property in Canterbury spread to a neighbouring garage.
The Fire Service says the blaze had reached the garage and burnt out a vehicle by the time they arrived at the Tram Road property near Kaiapoi at 1.20pm on Monday.
Ten minutes earlier a large digger caught alight about 10 kilometres further north, near Woodend.
No one was injured.
A fire investigator is at the scene looking into the cause of the blaze.
