Ombudsman wants more help for difficult students

The Chief Ombudsman is calling for more classroom support for students with behavioural problems.

In its annual report to Parliament, the Office of the Ombudsmen says more attention needs to be paid to the plight of students who are not getting the help they need at school.

Chief Ombudsman Beverley Wakem says it is worrying that students are suspended or expelled when support for them or for their teacher has been insufficient or inadequate.

Ms Wakem says funding is needed to ensure teacher aide support is always available for as many hours as is appropriate.
