Boaties warned after marker goes missing

Authorities are warning that a large navigational marker missing off the eastern Bay of Plenty coast is a danger to boats in the area.

The Bay of Plenty Regional Council says the pillar-type marker from an aquaculture farm, about 9km north of Opotiki, broke away at its base.

It is painted black above yellow and displays a white, quick-flashing light.

The council is advising skippers to keep a good lookout and report any sightings to the harbourmaster.
