Trial trial review on hold

7:04 am on 2 September 2012

The Law Commission says a review aimed at making trials less traumatic for victims of sexual offending is on hold.

The commission began public consultation this year on an alternative trial process, including the possibility of a specialised court.

The Auckland Coalition for the Safety of Women and Children says it is disappointed the review has been put off indefinitely.

But commission president Sir Grant Hammond, says it will still be done, just not this year.

Sir Grant says the review has been delayed while staff work on other reviews which have been given a higher priority by the Government.
