Swedish tourists' killer denied parole again

Convicted double murderer David Tamihere has again been denied parole.

Tamihere has served almost 20 years in prison for the murder of Swedish tourists Heidi Paakonen and Urban Hoglin in Coromandel in 1989.

One of the issues always raised at his parole hearings is the location of Ms Paakkonen's body.

The Parole Board says Tamihere maintains he has no idea where she is and this is supported by his family.

It says he continues to deny his offending.

The board says Tamihere has received 20 sessions of psychological treatment in the last year, but remains at high risk for both sexual and violent re-offending.

It said Tamihere remains a difficult man and therefore declined his release on parole.

However, the board also urged the Corrections Department to grant him forms of temporary release for him to test his ability to live offence free in the community.
