'Buy Kiwi Made' campaign suspended

3:49 pm on 6 December 2008

The Government has suspended the "Buy Kiwi Made" advertising campaign.

Minister of Economic Development Gerry Brownlee says no more money will be committed to it, unless a review shows it to be effective.

With so much New Zealand manufacturing linked to other parts of the world, he says it's hard to know what the "Buy Kiwi Made" slogan actually means.

Mr Brownlee says the Government wants to focus on ensuring manufacturers are given access to much bigger markets.

The campaign is paid up until Christmas.

The Green Party questions the Government's decison. MP Sue Bradford claims the campaign resulted in an increase in the number of people supporting local products.
