Justice Minister Judith Collins says she has received an independent report on David Bain's compensation claim for wrongful conviction and imprisonment.
Mr Bain was acquitted of murdering his parents and three siblings in Dunedin in 2009 after serving 13 years in jail.
He applied for compensation in 2010, but under the law, was required to prove his innocence on the balance of probabilities.
The New Zealand Government asked a retired Canadian Supreme Court judge, Justice Ian Binnie, to examine the case and provide advice on Mr Bain's claim.
Ms Collins says she has received Justice Binnie's report and will discuss its findings with him and her colleagues in the Cabinet.
The minister says its contents will not be made public until a decision on whether to compensate Mr Bain is reached by the Government.
