A Taupo man has been charged over a sexual assault in the town last week after valuable information was provided by members of the public to police.
A woman, 22, was attacked in a service lane behind a backpackers hostel just before 11pm on Thursday.
Police say she managed to fight her attacker off and scream for help.
The accused is charged with indecent assault and will appear in Taupo District Court.
