Police are investigating the indecent assault of a seven-year-old girl at her Mt Maunganui home.
They are appealing for information following the attack late on Tuesday night or early Wednesday.
Police say a man came into the bedroom the girl shared with her younger sister at the Oceanview Road property, and indecently assaulted her.
The man is described as in his 30s and Maori with a mohawk hairstyle and earrings in his left ear.
Police say the girl is being supported by family and is holding up well.
They are asking for anyone who may have seen someone acting suspiciously in the Sutherland Road and Oceanview area to contact them.
