Man in hospital after bus hits power pole

An elderly man is in hospital in a stable condition after a bus crashed into a power pole in Christchurch.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash which happened at the intersection of Centaurus Road and Parklands Drive in the suburb of St Martins about 1.30pm on Thursday.

Power lines were ripped from houses and three people were initially taken to hospital.

An elderly man and a woman in her 20s have been discharged.

Power has been restored to the five houses affected.

The company that owns the bus, Leopard Coachlines, was not available for comment.
