Injunction lodged against Tainui restructure plan

5:33 pm on 9 December 2008

There appears to be a power struggle within Tainui over restructuring the Tainui Trust Board.

Waatea News reports that following the announcement of restructuring plans last week by board chairman Tukoroirangi Morgan, an injunction to stop the move has been lodged in the Hamilton High Court.

The injunction is spearheaded by Tom Roa, chairman of Tainui's parliamentary wing Te Kauhanganui.

In a letter to around 200 parliamentarians Tom Roa said he had been locked out of meetings and the board had overstepped its authority and treated the Tainui parliament with disdain.

Neither Mr Morgan nor Tom Toa was available for further comment.
