The Milford Sound Road has been closed by snow and more is expected to fall over the next two days.
The Transport Agency is advising motorists to take care and carry chains on the Arthurs Pass road where snow is expected above 700 metres, though it should clear after midday on Sunday.
High winds are making driving risky in parts of Otago and inland Canterbury.
