Taranaki rescue pilots quit

2:26 pm on 10 September 2012

Both pilots working for Taranaki's rescue helicopter have quit their jobs as the trust that runs the service struggles for money.

Taranaki Community Rescue Helicopter Trust chairman Mark Masters says Sam Richmond, who is also the base manager, and Fergus MacLachlan have resigned.

The trust said in August it needed an extra $400,000 by Christmas to survive.

Mr Masters says the trust will use another pilot to ensure the service continues until permanent replacements are found.

He says the timing of the second pilot's resignation is unfortunate.
