The public continue to have high levels of trust in the New Zealand Police, according to a new survey.
Some (9706) people were interviewed for the annual Citizens' Satisfaction Survey in the year to June.
More than three-quarters (77%) of those surveyed said they had a lot or full confidence in the police - the same proportion as a year ago.
Some 93% of people felt safe in their neighbourhood during the day, but this dropped to 73% after dark.
Seventeen percent said they felt unsafe or very unsafe in the city after dark.
Nine out of 10 people who had had recent contact with police said they were either satisfied or very satisfied with the overall quality of service.
The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 2%.
