Hundreds of Auckland bus drivers have issued a strike notice expected to disrupt bus services for the next two months.
About 800 drivers will be staying home for the next eight Mondays after rejecting a new pay offer from employer NZ Bus.
Each strike will last from 4am on Monday morning until 2am on Tuesday.
The offer of a three-stage pay rise to $20 an hour needed the agreement of 60% of the drivers.
However, at a stopwork meeting on Monday, only 43% were in favour.
The First Union says later this week drivers will also begin work-to-rule action designed to slow down operations.
Bus passengers who spoke to Radio New Zealand say the strikes will be a significant hassle for them and will cause traffic snarl-ups.
