The Kapiti Coast District Council will investigateg improving security following two deaths in Paraparaumu's town centre.

Sean Strongman-Lintern died outside a pub in a carpark in Paraparaumu on Saturday, while Izak Millanta died in the same area five weeks ago.

Kapiti Coast mayor Jenny Rowan held meetings on Monday on security in the area known as Kapiti Lights.

Many residents say they are afraid to go there during weekends, and business operators want more lighting and security cameras due to vandalism.

Ms Rowan says police will be increasing their presence and the community will be investigate improving the lighting and installing cameras.

However, police are also calling for residents to take more responsiblity for their actions.

Inspector John Price says the most recent fight occured near the police station, but officers were out attending a robbery at the time.

Mr Price says police cannot be everywhere and the community needs to take responsiblity for their drinking and behaviour.
