The future employment of more than 40 staff at Avalon Studios in Lower Hutt is uncertain.
The television production studio was recently sold by Television New Zealand to Wellington consortium Avalon Holdings Ltd and will change hands in March next year.
The company's spokesperson, John Feast, says it is too early to be sure, but it is expected that about 25 jobs will be needed initially.
However, he says there is hope that more people will be needed later.
TVNZ says it will offer redundancy packages to employees and there is a chance that some people will be redeployed within the company.
Meanwhile, film and television makers from around the world will be encouraged to utilise Avalon Studios when the new owners take it over.
Mr Feast says they have already received inquiries from Indonesia, India and China, and they plan to market the studio worldwide.
