Police are investigating the death of a baby in Hamilton.
Emergency services were called to a property in Hamilton East just before 5pm on Thursday.
An ambulance was initially flagged down near the address and ambulance staff called police.
The five-month-old was taken to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition, but died about 11am on Friday.
A post mortem will be held in Auckland on Saturday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Greene says the investigation is in its very early stages.
He says while police are first and foremost supporting the family through a traumatic situation, they need to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding what has occurred.
