An 18-year-old man had his throat slashed during a fight in central Whangarei early on Saturday.
Police said the man was involved in a fight with two other men at about 2am.
The teenager has been undergoing emergency surgery in Whangarei Hospital.
A 17-year-old has been arrested and will appear in the Whangarei District Court on Monday.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
