Justice Minister Simon Power has expressed his displeasure at the cost blow-out in building the new Supreme Court.
Mr Power said Ministry of Justice officials have told him the cost of the new building, along with restoring the old High Court in Wellington, has risen from $65 million in 2006 to $80.7 million today.
Mr Power said up to $12 million is required from Government to meet the shortfall and another $3 million from the Ministry of Justice.
Simon Power said the money could have been used to help deal with backlogs of court cases.
But he said the project is too far advanced to do anything other than ensure there are no more cost increases.
