Three men charged in relation to the death of a New Zealand policeman in Tonga will appear in court again next week.

Kali Fungavaka died in August after receiving fatal injuries while being held in police custody.

A Tongan news website reports Semisi Kalisitiane Manu appeared at the Nuku'alofa Magistrate's Court on Monday charged with manslaughter, with his case adjourned until Monday.

Mr Semisi, who remains in police custody, was detained in the same cell as the victim at the Nuku'alofa Central Police Station.

Two policemen who are each charged with assault on Mr Fungavaka are currently on bail, and will also appear in court again on Monday.
