Woman in custody after Levin AOS callout

5:14 pm on 27 September 2012

A woman is in custody after police were threatened with an axe in Levin, prompting an armed offenders squad callout.

Police say the incident began shortly after 7am after Levin police received a complaint that a woman had threatened another person with a hammer at a Burns Street address.

She was located at a Goldsmith Crescent address but ran inside after being arrested, locking herself in and threatening to hit the first officer through the door, police say.

Armed police cordoned off the house and called in the armed offenders squad from Palmerston North.

After attempts to get her to come out failed, AOS members entered the house and took her into custody without incident.

No one was injured.

The 35-year-old Levin woman will appear in the Levin District Court on 4 October on several weapon and assault related charges.
