Two new sites look to challenge Trade Me

Two new internet trading sites are looking to challenge Trade Me's market dominance, as the internet giant puts up its fees.

Trade Me's charges for each sale go up by just over 5% on Monday, the same day a new site called Wheedle launches.

It is offering a flat rate of $1 when items are sold for more than $20.

List Sell Trade, which launched on Thursday, is offering a $10 monthly rate to target sellers.

Trade Me's head of marketplace, Craig Jordan, says many other trading websites have come and gone over the years and they all struggled to attract the numbers of buyers that would attract sellers - and vice versa.
