Missing man seriously ill

Police in Pukekohe, south of Auckland, are very concerned for the safety of a local man who has learning difficulties.

Donald Wheatley, 53, who has a mental age of 10 years, has been missing since Thursday.

He is suffering from a serious medical condition and needs to take regular medication, which he does not have with him.

Sergeant Wayne Paxton says there have been sightings of him in Cambridge and Tokoroa and it's believed he's trying to get to Porirua or Wellington.

Mr Wheatley has a shaven head and has no teeth. He was last seen wearing blue track pants, a blue fleecy top and brown cowboy boots.

Anyone who thinks they may have seen Mr Wheatley or may know his present whereabouts are asked to urgently contact the police.
