Body tipoff caller comes forward

Police investigating a homicide in the Auckland suburb of Mt Wellington say the anonymous caller who alerted them to the man's body has made himself known.

Emergency services got a phone call from the man, who identified himself as Hohepa, at about 11.30pm on Sunday.

Police say he rang from a phone box about a kilometre from where the body was found, on Hillside Rd. They say the man knew exactly where the body was and said he would wait for them to get to the scene, but when emergency services arrived he wasn't there.

The caller made contact with the police on Monday afternoon and was being interviewed.

The dead man, who is yet to be identified. was wearing a green jumper and blue jeans held up with a piece of white electrical cable; he was aged in his 20s or 30s.
