Norovirus cases continue to rise at hospital

The number of people infected with bug Norovirus at Middlemore Hospital continues to rise.

The stomach bug has affected patients and staff since last Friday.

The hospital in South Auckland says there have now been several admissions from the community of patients with gastroenteritis, and secondary transmission to staff and patients in more than one ward.

As of Wednesday afternoon, 56 patients and 57 staff are affected.

Middlemore Hospital is not allowing children to visit unless on compassionate grounds, and asks the public to visit only if they have been free of symptoms for at least two days.
