More rain in leadup to Christmas Day

3:36 pm on 22 December 2008

More rain is forecast before Christmas as a depression nudges northern parts of New Zealand.

MetService says rain may spread southwards across much of the North Island on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Heavy falls are possible in eastern Northland, parts of the Coromandel, eastern Bay of Plenty, Gisborne and Hawke's Bay.

MetService says the wet weather will be welcomed by some farmers, especially those near the coast between Napier and Gisborne, which is now the driest part of the country.

It says the weather for Christmas Day is still uncertain for some areas because it depends on how quickly the depression heads towards the Chatham Islands.
