Auckland Transport wants to simplify the network of 400 bus routes to 130 and double patronage in a decade to 140 million trips per year.

A new plan aims to double public transport use in Auckland.

Auckland Transport wants to simplify the network of 400 bus routes to 130 and double patronage in a decade to 140 million trips per year.

Services would be more frequent, every 15 minutes on the core network.

A new fare structure with electronic tickets and new electric trains will be rolled out in coming years.

The changes will begin begin later this year will start with bus services in the south of the region.
