Tamihere condemns NZRU over no games for Maori team

7:35 am on 23 December 2008

Former politician John Tamihere has condemned a decision by the New Zealand Rugby Union not to schedule any games for the New Zealand Maori team next year on economic grounds.

Mr Tamihere describes it as institutionalised racism and notes that the NZRU still uses the haka.

Waatea News reports the former chair of New Zealand Maori rugby league says Maori must pressure the sports governing body to do a U-turn.

Mr Tamihere also says all Maori should snub rugby and take up rugby league.
