Leaky homes may have to be pulled down

Hundreds of leaky homes in Auckland are so rotten they may have to be pulled down.

Home Owners and Buyers Association chief executive Roger Levie said blocks of inner-city townhouses could be demolished after they were deemed byond repair in suburbs including Onehunga, Ellerslie, West Auckland and Albany.

Ten years ago, the Hunn Report on the leaky building crisis recommended sweeping changes to building industry practice.

David Kernohan, one of the report's authors, said on Friday that little has changed and systemic failures remain.

Mr Kernohan said no-one seems to want to take accountability for leaky homes or support leaky home owners.
