Drivers to be watched from on high

The police are launching a driver safety campaign that will use spotter planes over some North Island locations to identify bad drivers.

Booze buses will also continue to operate throughout the holiday period.

The Road Policing Manager, Superintendent Paula Rose, calls the nation's roads "the killing fields". She says this is a very dangerous period for New Zealand drivers, with speed and alcohol the cause of most crashes. However, she says over-tired drivers are also lethal.
