The police investigating the death of a Kerikeri infant will spend Christmas Day working on the case.

A homicide investigation began after 16 month old Riley Justin Osborne died in Starship hospital on Tuesday night.

He was flown there on Friday, with severe head injuries.

The infant lived with his 22 year old mother, 21 year old stepfather and a family friend in a unit at Cobham Road in Kerikeri.

Detective Senior Sergeant Marty Ruth said officers are keen to solve the case.

Mr Ruth said police are talking to the three adults in the house, extended family, neighbours and a number of people who have been coming and going from the home since Friday.
