For the second day in a row, police investigating the death of a 16-month-old Kerikeri boy have put off releasing the result of his post-mortem.
They said it's for "operational reasons".
Riley Justin Osborne died on Tuesday after being flown to Starship Hospital with severe head injuries. He lived with his 22-year-old mother, 21-year-old stepfather and a family friend in a unit in Kerikeri.
A reduced crew of three continued the inquiry on Christmas Day, but a full team of investigators is now back on the case.
The police, who had earlier expected a swifter resolution to the case, have been unable to report any significant progress.
