Powerlines down in Auckland

8:48 pm on 13 October 2012

Powerlines have been down in pockets of Auckland.

A large tree crashed through a house in Beachhaven on the North Shore.

Lines company Vector has finished repairing outages in Rodney and Te Atatu districts and power has also been restored to parts of Otara, Devonport and Titirangi.

A Fire Service spokesperson, Scott Osmond, says there were about 70 weather related call outs on Saturday, mostly dealing with trees falling on power lines.

He says the weather has since calmed down considerably and MetService says the wind is expected to ease overnight.

However lines company Vector says strong winds were continuing to cause power outages in pockets of Auckland on Saturday evening.

It said it had been restoring power outages in Helensville, Massey and Manly.
