Police in Counties Manukau are continuing to examine the scene where a man was attacked and died on Friday.
The name of the 55-year-old victim who died of head injuries has not been released and the police say they have yet to identify his family.
He is believed to have family living in Britain.
Police say investigations so far indicate the victim was living a routine, quiet life in a converted garage on Great South Road near the intersections of Weymouth and Alfriston roads.
