Police have named the three people who died in a collision involving three motorcycles in Canterbury on Saturday.
The crash happened on the Christchurch - Akaroa highway, between Tai Tapu and Motukarara at 4.20pm.
The dead have been named as husband and wife Martyn and Kaye Hartley of Christchurch and Nigel Hannington, also from Christchurch.
Another female passenger is critically ill in hospital.
Police say it appears a Christchurch bound motorcycle overtook several vehicles on a sweeping bend and collided with one of two motorcycles travelling towards Akaroa, causing the third motorcycle to crash.
The holiday road toll is now eight.
