Safe driving urged by police

8:56 am on 28 December 2008

Police urge people to drive safely as the holiday road toll rises and traffic congestion continues.

The holiday road toll is seven.

Inspector Rob Morgan says motorists need to keep safe driving in mind at all times.

He says drivers should remember this is holiday time and factor congestion and delays into their plans. Motorists also need to be patient and drive to the conditions.

Despite the deaths, this year's road toll could be the lowest since 1960: 353 people have died on the roads to date. The 1960 toll was 374.
